However, it’s important to stay safe during one of the biggest celebrations of the year.

Here are 7 tips for staying safe and having fun while partying for the new year:

1. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.

Designate a DD, have a ride set up, or call a ride sharing service, such as Uber or Lyft. Whatever you do, do not drink and drive! Remember, before you jump into a taxi, do a reverse phone number lookup on your driver to make sure you’ll be getting to your destination safe and sound.

2. STAY IN GROUPS.

While everyone is partying, there are some people with a criminal history out there who are looking for drunk, lonely, and/or unsuspecting victims to take advantage of. Always travel with a buddy — the more the merrier!

3. BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS.

Whether you’re at the bar or at a house party, stay aware of what’s going on and who’s around you.

4. FULLY CHARGE YOUR PHONE BEFORE HEADING OUT.

In case you separate from your friends or need to make an emergency call, you’ll need a fully charged cell phone. If your phone dies, make sure you have access to a friend’s phone if you need it.

5. KEEP YOUR DRINK ON YOU AT ALL TIMES.

Avoid falling victim to a spiked drink this New York’s Eve. Bring your glass with you to the bathroom, across the restaurant, or down the hall. No matter what, keep your eyes and hands on your drink throughout the night so nobody can mess with it.

6. FILL UP ON FOOD BEFORE YOU START DRINKING.

Make sure to eat a hefty meal before you head out to prevent getting sick from drinking on an empty stomach.

7. PACE YOURSELF.

Ten shots in an hour is a recipe for disaster. Slow and steady wins the race (and it keeps you safe and able to continue having a good time)!

Follow these 7 tips and you’ll be on your way to a safe and fun NYE celebration!

Have a very happy new year, everyone!
