So you’ve already decided you’re going camping… Now what? All you need to do is perform an address search for a campground, prepare, and go!
Whether you’re going alone, with friends/family, deep into uncharted territory, or a local campsite, here are 6 essentials you’ll need for the ultimate camping trip:
1) Proper campsite gear
Unless you’re planning on sleeping under the stars unsheltered, you’ll need a sizable tent complete with poles and stakes, a sleeping bag, and a pillow.
2) Tools and equipment
Flashlights, matches, a knife, map, compass, and rope are a few essential pieces of equipment to bring along on your trip. There are also various technologies like GPS devices and artificial fire starters that may be more advanced than original camping equipment.
3) Basic skills
If you’re unfamiliar with what camping entails, study up on the skills necessary for survival away from modern technology and society. Living in nature is more complicated than setting up a tent and enjoying the fresh air. Brush up on your knot-tying skills, how to start a fire, where to find fresh water, which berries are consumable/poisonous, etc.
4) Appropriate clothing
Check the weather ahead of time and gauge the type of attire you should wear. If you’ll be in colder climate, pack heavier clothes and boots, and vice versa (common sense!). Remember that it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.
5) First aid & supply kits
In case of an emergency, it’s vital to be ready. If you don’t have pre-packaged supply kits, create your own! Bandages and antibacterial ointment will help to heal wounds, whereas duct tape, hand warmers, a thermos, canteen, and gloves will keep you prepared.
6) Food and drink
If you’re planning on hunting for your own food, you’ll need #2-5 (gear, equipment, skills, clothing, and supplies) to accomplish the task.
If not, bring ingredients for easy-to-make meals, including bread, peanut butter, cold cuts, non-perishables, and water. If you want to go all out, bring your own mini-grill and cook up some delicious meals, like sausage, steak, or veggies.
Follow this basic essentials guide and you’ll be on your way to a successful experience in the wilderness! Before you stay on a campsite, consider doing a reverse address lookup on the location to ensure it’s safe for you to stay.
